Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii )

Height: 40-70’
Width: 15-20’
Growth Rate: moderately fast
Soil: sand, loam
Moisture: moist, dry
Shade Tolerance:  partial shade
Bloom Time: N/A
Flower Color: N/A
Uses: Christmas trees, landscaping, windbreak, wildlife
Spacing: minimum 8’ x 8’
Habitat: Prefers full sun, but will grow in partial shade. Prefers a moist well drained soil. Salt sensitive, drought resistant.
Notes: Requires good drainage, drought tolerant

Douglas fir has very soft, dark green, medium length needles. Its is used for windbreaks, hedges, wildlife, and Christmas trees. It should not be planted next to blue spruce. It also provides important winter cover for birds and mammals.
