We All Live Downstream – How Nonpoint Source Pollution Affects Us All: – Presented by Ben Jordan (Watershed Programs Coordinator) and Sarah Bowman (Watershed & Conservation Specialist) of the Ottawa Conservation District

  • What is nonpoint source pollution and how does it affect water quality? A pollutant becomes a nonpoint source pollutant when it is picked up from surface water flow overland due to precipitation, flooding, or erosion and enters into local waterbodies. These pollutants include excess sediment, nutrients, bacteria (e.coli), chloride from salts, and more which affects aquatic habitats, recreational uses, and drinking water sources. In this speaker session, Ben and Sarah will talk about common nonpoint source pollutants in Ottawa County, discuss tips for ways residents can reduce their pollutant input into streams, and talk about financial and technical support available through the Ottawa Conservation District.

Attendance will be limited to 40 people per event. Please register in advance to reserve your spot here: https://forms.gle/RDG7oqkZQuY8u6cq8

This event is free to attend but we highly encourage all participants to support our hosts, Trail Point Brewing Company, by enjoying a beer or craft soda!  In return Trail Point Brewing will be making a donation to the Ottawa Conservation District to support the Ottawa Conservation District’s spring native plant sale to help make native plants more accessible to Ottawa County residents.
