Improving the Land with Prairie Strips: Presented by Kathryn Docherty and Elizabeth Schultheis (MSU Kellogg Biological Station Long Term Ecological Research) and Tracey Weatherwax (Ottawa Conservation District)
- Learn how strategically placed native prairie plantings into crop fields can increase biodiversity, enhance water quality, and improve soil health, while also saving farmers money on unproductive fields. Kathryn, Elizabeth, and one of their students will discuss the research they have done and share resources available through the Michigan Prairie Strips (MiStrips) program. Tracey Weatherwax will also highlight resources available for farmers to plant prairie strips through a number of NRCS programs.
Attendance will be limited to 40 people per event. Please register in advance to reserve your spot here.
This event is free to attend but we highly encourage all participants to support our hosts, Tanglewood Winery, by enjoying locally crafted wine. In return, Tanglewood will be donated a dollar of every drink sold during the event to the Ottawa Conservation District to help support continuing free educational workshops for Ottawa County residents.
