E.coli is a major pollutant in nearly every surface water body in Ottawa County. According to recent data, a major source of E.coli has been tied to failing septic systems. In this educational workshop, Ottawa Conservation District staff will review how E.coli from septic systems can pollute nearby surface water, go over some do’s and don’ts when it comes to septic system maintenance, and will review septic system replacement financial assistance available through their Watershed Restoration Programs. Ottawa County Environmental Health staff will review the County’s time-of-sale ordinance and the process for obtaining a permit to conduct septic system replacements. EGLE’s Septic Loan Program Manager will talk about additional statewide financial assistance available through the new Septic Loan Program.
